I have been dealing in carpets and Kilims since 1990 and I have been selling on line since 1995.

I learned the business from my brother Cem Williford who in the early eighties use to own a store in a lazy little fishing/turist village in south western Turkish coast called Marmaris. By 1990 the town had became a city and Tourism its main income. My brother decided to move back to the states and he brought his kilims back with him.

We opened our first store up in Chapel Hill NC. Since than we have gone our own ways. I learned the art of the weave from my brother. I only buy the rugs that I feel have some sort of cultural significance.

I am not interested in the commercial, mass production of todays main rug business. For thousands of years women wove not only for necessity but also to tell stories of their lives so the next generation would know who they were and where they came from...

Wool would be selected and carefully separated to use only the portions that will absorb the dyes well and last the longest duration. Than it would be spun using simple tools like a drop spindle. Then the well kept family secrets of dying would be used. Which flowers give the best colors , which root dyes make the strongest red, which fruits give you the golden brown.

This in its self was an art form and for certain colors well kept family secret. In our bussines we would like to preserve the art of the rug.. I hope you enjoy our site.
